The email I almost missed

Hello Reader,

A few days ago, an email landed in my inbox that I almost scrolled past.

It was from a woman I knew years ago, back in a different season of life. She started her note the way may of you start yours: You probably don't remember me, but…

(For the record — I usually do.)

She told me she'd been a single mom for nearly two decades.

That she'd finally remarried someone she thought was safe. And that she was now sitting in the middle of an ugly divorce, with gaslighting and emotional abuse in the rearview mirror and a brand-new church and a recovery group as her lifeline forward.

Her group is reading a book about emotionally healthy spirituality. One chapter talks about anchoring your day in fixed times of connection with God — the rhythm the old church fathers called the "daily office." She'd been hunting for something to give her a little structure as she rebuilt her prayer life from the ground up.

And then she said this:

"I found your weekly journal. It's perfect for what I need right now. I just wanted to reach out and thank you."

I sat at my kitchen counter and cried. I really did.

Because here's what she didn't know: when I wrote Praying the Promises of God, I was thinking about a woman rebuilding her life after a marriage fell apart.

Because at one time, that woman was me.

Fifty-two promises.

A place to write down what God said — and what I'm still asking Him for.

I didn't know He'd use it to meet a woman exactly where she was, in the rubble of something she didn't see coming, and hand her a rhythm of prayer she could actually sustain.

But that's how God works, isn't it? He uses the things from our own hard seasons to meet someone else in theirs.

Friend, if your prayer life feels scattered right now — or you're hungry for a little structure and don't know where to start — this is the journal I built for that.

Fifty-two promises from Scripture. One promise a week. Space to read, listen, write, and remember what He said.

Hello Reader, Have you ever faced something so big you didn’t even know how to start praying about it? In this episode, we sit with a king named Jehoshaphat who caught news of an army he could not beat, and we watch what he did instead of panicking. His prayer in 2 Chronicles 20 hands us a pattern for the battles we never asked for, the ones that show up before we have any idea what to do. The place where we don’t know what to do turns out to be the exact place God’s answer begins. LISTEN NOW...

Hello Reader, The angels at the empty tomb asked the women a question that I've been reflecting on this week: "Why do you look for the living among the dead?" This Easter, I'm getting honest about the dead places I've been looking for life — not out in the world, but inside my own heart. The self-talk that tears down instead of builds up. The thoughts that are not true, not honest, not of good report. What happens when what's living in our hearts starts flowing out of our mouths? You’ll...

Hey Reader, Moments of desperation strike every human heart. Whether tragedy, sickness, or brokenness, the reasons for our despair seem endless. As I have drenched myself in the Psalms season after season since my daughter, Taylor’s, death in 2019, Psalm 102:17 has often arrested my attention. “He will respond to the prayer of the destitute.” I researched the word “destitute” because in my mind, I typically would define destitute as “homeless.” Maybe you too? So I read every major Bible...
